Grandma's got the rap on Eminem
Who says that Eminem's music doesn't bring families together? The rapper
hasn't spoken with his grandma in almost a year. But now that he's a
rap star and a movie star, the sweet old gal wants to write a book about
him. Betty Kresin, 63, and her grandson, born Marshall Mathers III,
seem to agree on one important subject: Neither of them thinks Debbie
Mathers-Briggs was much of a mom. "Oh, I figure she'll sue me," Kresin
says of her daughter. "She's always going to sue somebody." Kresin writes
in her proposal: "Debbie had a lot of men in and out of her life," including
one memorable boyfriend called Charlie. "He went home and destroyed
their duplex - even cutting up their king-sized waterbed. She called
me crying, asking me to help clean up the flood. All I could think about
was my grandson, okay?" (Debbie couldn't reached for comment.) The proposal
also tells of Kresin's own hardscrabble upbringing. She was an unwanted
child raised by an alcoholic grandmother, and gave birth to Eminem's
mother at 16. "I want people to understand where [Eminem] comes from,"
she tells us from her home in St. Joseph, Mo. "He's following in grandma's
footsteps." A rep for Eminem told us: "Sure, he knows about the book.
Everybody who's ever met him is writing a book right now." Grandma Betty,
whose agent, Barbara Zitwer, is pitching the memoir to publishers this
week, says she's seen his new film, "8 Mile," twice. "He said it was
all fictional, but I don't believe it was," she said. "I know his life,
and it's a lot of his real true story. He struggled to get where he
is today, and he did get beat up a few times. "And his mother did live
in a trailer, but there's one thing - this is the fictional part - it
wasn't a trashy trailer."

Online bidding on Eminem's old
home tops $11 M
Eminem's former homes continue to draw fans -- and bids of more than
$11 million US -- to an Internet auction site. A modest 120-square-metre
Warren
home, listed on EBay since Nov. 14, was appraised at $91,000. The
highest of the 289 bids as of Monday morning was $11,000,600. Bidding
opened at $120,000. "It amazes me," co-owner Roland Fraschetti told
the Detroit News. "We're trying to find out more about the bidder."
The Macomb County commissioner from St. Clair Shores bought the three-bedroom,
two-bathroom home on Nov. 8 for $45,000 with partner Sebastian Lucido.
"We know there are sincere bids out there in the six figures and some
sincere bids in the seven figures but I don't know about the eight-figure
bids," Fraschetti said. Another former Eminem abode -- a 465-square-metre
colonial
in Sterling Heights -- went up on EBay on Wednesday and drew an
initial bid of $600,000. The highest of 44 bids as of Monday morning
was $800,400.

Europe Music Awards in Barcelona last week. But try as she might, no
introductions were made. "She hung around outside his dressing room

He really didn't want to know." Read

Schadler in an epsiode that aired last night. Debbie says her son Eminem
has "got a persona to live up to, an image." She added that she doesn't

she said. "He's very sad on the inside. He is hurting a lot. And I can

Eminem is rather delighted with
my album!
Marilyn Manson has revealed that peroxide-blonde rapper Eminem was "rather
delighted" with ‘The Golden Age Of Grotesque’. Manson ran into Eminem
at last week’s MTV Europe Music Awards in Barcelona, and the pair reportedly
listened to tracks from Manson’s forthcoming album. In his online journal,
Manson commented: "I did give the glad hand to Eminem, who seems rather
delighted with the bits of my new album he was lucky enough to hear
during our visit. Likewise, I had all aces on stage with him and it
made me very anxious to begin 'The Grotesque Burlesque'. Incidentally,
that is NOT a song title, but the name of our travelling event. However,
it is part of the chorus to my favourite track that I babbled out about
a year ago as this Tumor was diagnosed. That song is called: 'Doll-Dagga
Buzz-Buzz Ziggety-Zag' and is being mixed as I write this. You'll be
happy to know that more than half of the final mixes are done since
I last reported. That means we will be finished quite soon. I have not
confirmed any other titles although I have hinted at working names such
as 'F**k You', and so on. Be patient until the pie cools off or you
will burn your tongues."

Justin About NSYNC Diss
NSYNC star Justin Timberlake tells the December issue of Blender magazine
that his bandmate Chris Kirkpatrick could kick Eminem's butt, though
he doesn't think it is necessary. "I don't think he ought to. There's
no reason to get bent out of shape about something Eminem says," he
said. "But I think if they were in a fight, Chris would kick his ass.
Chris is a tough little... Chris is tough. And he has a Napoleon complex
too, so he's extra tough. His toughness comes from the heart, because
he was always the little guy at school -- so he always had to stick
up for himself." Read

Eminem on Time's Person of
the Year list
What does President George W. Bush have in common with the world's most
wanted man, Osama bin Laden, rapper Eminem and Iraqi President Saddam
Hussein? Answer: They are all on the "short list" for Time magazine's
2002 Person of the Year. Time Magazine revealed on Wednesday its list
for the coveted title, the first time in the honour's 75-year history
that the weekly news magazine has opened a window on the nominating

Eminem Enters Anger-Replenishment
Program
Erstwhile pariah struggling to recover missing rage Eminem, the rapper
whose angry, misogynist rants helped catapult him to the top of the
pop charts, has entered a so-called anger-replenishment program after
advisers to the rapper had noticed worrisome signs of nonangry behavior
by the platinum-selling artist. “As he becomes embraced by the mainstream,
it’s getting harder and harder for Eminem to find things to be annoyed
about,” said Irv Faustino, the rapper’s accountant. “As his financial
adviser, I’m frankly concerned.” Sccording to Faustino, Eminem was involved
in a fender bender in Detroit recently after which he calmly rolled
down his window and called out to the other driver, “My bad.” And in
an incident that further confirmed his advisers’ darkest fears, last
week the rapper was heard whistling along to a commercial jingle by
electronic musician Moby, who had previously been the target of the
rapper’s most eviscerating scorn. Music industry insiders said that
the erstwhile pariah’s outlaw status began to evaporate during his 2001
Grammy night duet with Elton John and vanished entirely this month with
a rave review of his movie “8 Mile” by Wall Street Journal critic Joe
Morgenstern. “When the Wall Street Journal starts loving you, it’s only
a matter of time before Lynne Cheney hops on the bandwagon,” said Danny
Hogarth, a prominent music executive. “Before you know it, you’re doing
Muppet Christmas specials opposite Chicken Dance Elmo.” After two days
in the anger-replenishment program, however, Eminem’s advisers remained
concerned, as the rapper pronounded himself “100 percent cured” and
said that he intended to get to work on a new movie, “The Mighty Ducks
Meet the Little Mermaid.”

Eminem and Nelly picked up four each when the nominees were announced
Tuesday (November 19) in Beverly Hills, California. Show producer Dick
Clark told LAUNCH that if nominations suggest any sort of music trend
for 2002. "I think probably the proliferation of hip-hop music--when
Ashanti gets five nominations in a lot of different categories, that's
pretty outstanding." The AMAs ceremony will take place January 13 at
the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, and it will be hosted by Ozzy
Osbourne and his now-famous family. Twenty awards will be presented
during a three-hour telecast on the ABC Network, which will air 8-11

$1M+ Bid For Eminem's Boyhood
Home
Bidding for one of Eminem's boyhood homes has surpassed $1 million on
an Internet auction site. The modest Warren home, listed on eBay since
Thursday, was appraised at $91,000. Bidding opened at $120,000, and
by Tuesday afternoon, the high bid was just over $1 million. "It's just
amazing the response we're getting," said Sebastian Lucido, a Utica
attorney who bought the house with Roland Fraschetti, a Macomb County
commissioner and real estate developer. Eminem's uncle, Todd Nelson,
sold the house this month for $45,000 to Lucido and Fraschetti. The
1,300-square-foot home has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. It was
built in 1940 and has been in Eminem's family for at least 50 years,
Fraschetti said. "Sure, some of the bids could just be people showboating,
but you have to figure with that number of people, some have to be legitimate,"
Fraschetti told The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens for a Tuesday story.
The Web site, which includes pictures, had over 18,000 hits in less
than four days, Lucido told The Detroit News. Bids on eBay will be accepted
until Dec. 14 at 5 p.m. At that time, the sellers will get in touch
with the highest bidder to work out a purchase agreement, Lucido said.

on the set of their movie 8 MILE, ended their whirlwind romance after
another in a long line of fake panic attacks. A source says, "They had
a torrid affair. And unlike his relationship with Kim Basinger, the
two of them really tried to keep it secret. "Em was crazy about Brittany
and she appeared to be crazy about him. But he quickly grew tired of
her as well. He said the final straw was when she faked a panic attack

Uncle Sells Eminem's Childhood
Home
Grammy-winning rapper Eminem's childhood home in Warren, Mich., is up
for sale on the Internet site eBay
for a minimum bid of $120,000. The 30-year-old rapper, whose real name
is Marshall Mathers, spent much of his teenage and early adult life
in the home, his uncle Todd Nelson told The Macomb Daily. It is located
on Timken Street near Nine Mile Road and Van Dyke Ave. "This is where
it all started for him," Nelson told the paper. "Without this house,
Marshall would be in jail or back in Missouri, where he was born." Nelson,
who lives in St. Clair County, Mich., said that the house has been in
the family for the past 50 years. He decided to sell it to pay some
of his personal debts. The sale did not sit well with Eminem or other
relatives, Nelson said. "He's mad, they're all mad at me, everyone in
the whole family," Nelson told the paper. "But I had to do what I had
to do." Nelson recently sold the house for $45,000 to St. Clair Shores
lawyer Sebastian Lucido and his partner, Macomb County commissioner
and real estate developer Roland Fraschetti. Fraschetti said that he
is making improvements to the house. The 1,500-square-foot house has
three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a winding wood staircase leading
to the second floor and a decorative wooden fence. The house also has
a new roof and windows, and central air and heating, according to the
paper's report. The house is worth about $47,000 according to a Warren
assessing office, but Sebastian said an independent appraisal of the
house came in at $91,000. Nelson said that he may also include some
of Eminem's old drawings and writings up for auction. Eminem's mother,
Debbie, reportedly moved the family to Michigan when he was a child.
He lived there off and on between the ages of 13 and 25, and when he
attended Lincoln High School in Warren, Nelson said. The family also
lived on Dresden Street, near Eight Mile and Groesbeck roads, in Detroit.
Eminem now resides with his wife, Kim, and their daughter Hailie, in
Clinton Township, Mich., the paper reported. The rapper has won five
Grammys and stars in "8 Mile," which opened at No. 1 at the box office
this past weekend. "There's a chance someone may want to buy it and
move it to Hollywood for a museum or something," Fraschetti said about
the Warren home. Fraschetti said that if nobody buys the home that they
may rent it out.

New Book About Eminem
Eminem's maternal grandmother Betty Kresin has completed the book 'The
Ties That Bind', which talks about her own upbrining as well as Eminem's
friendship with his uncle Ronnie, Kresin's sone from a later marriage
who died in an apparent suicide in 1991 - an event that has played a
major role in Eminem's lyrics. Kresin's agent Barbara J. Zitwer commented,
"She has a story to tell on her own, but she also happens to be Eminem's
grandmother, so it sheds incredible light on his music. It's like 'Angela's
Ashes', the lives these people led."

Suge Knight About 8 Mile
Lias S. Mitchell: What are your feelings towards Mr. Marshall Mathers
and are you planning to see 8 Miles when it comes out?
Suge Knight:"Everybody know when your dealing with me you gonna get
the truth because that's what I'm about. I already saw 8 Miles and yeah
I'm proud to say I bought the bootleg because first of all I'm a real
ghetto ***** and second, I don't believe in supporting capitalism by
coporate America of our hip-hop culture. I laugh my guts out everytime
I see the updated version of Elvis Presley dance around his videos like
a clown then the next minute he want to be serious and all violent.
Eminem in my eyes is money-making character master-minded by Dre & Jimmy
Iovine to make him feel invincible in culture that us blacks worked
hard to build. Nobody back in the '80s when this **** first started
would have predicted that at one time or another that a 'wigger' or
wannabe ***** as I like to call him would be the number rapper. Disrespecting
the woman who gave birth to you ain't cool at all. This kid loves to
portray himself like a violent guy who's a threat to society but in
reality he's getting paid by a culture who is feeding into his gimmick.
But it all goes back to Dre because Dre is basically the master of having
people believe he's something he's not. There's some rumors going around
in the industry regarding Em's sexual preference and I have people working
for me to help bring this innuedo to life if it's true. Haha. Look out
for Eminem's second bring screen endeavor very soon called "8 Inches"

Eminem Prank Backfires
A man dressed as rap star Eminem caused panic this weekend after knocking
on the door of a Lincolnshire house, wielding a 3ft-long roaring chainsaw.
Police were called to the scene after a terrified resident opened his
front door and feared he was about to be attacked my the masked man.
However, when police arrived at Atwater Close, Lincoln, the culprit
had fled the scene. It later transpired that the menacing figure had
simply got the wrong address for a fancy dress party. A spokesman for
Lincolnshire Police said the man had obviously been intent on making
a dramatic entrance to the party, having dressed in Eminem's hell-raising
costume. He told Sky news: "The poor occupant was clearly frightened
out of his skin. "The guy turned up at the door with the chainsaw running
and must have looked terrifying. "Luckily, he had simply gone to the
wrong door. It must have been rather embarrassing for him."

No more Bad Meets Evil
AllHipHop.com chatted with Royce Da 5'9 and asked the rapper if there
be any future 'Bad Meets Evil' projects with the two. "Nah. I don’t
think so," he said. "I think Em’s perspective on the whole thing is
like he’s not in it for the money anymore. He’s really fed up. He just
wants to look out for his daughter. He’s doing him, and I’m doing me.
We parted ways. It happens. That’s my dog. I love him to death. But
no, I’m not up under him no more." Read more.

Mariah strikes back at Eminem
on new album
Mariah Carey has not only bounced back from her rough year, but she
also gets even with Eminem on her new album, "Charmbracelet," re- ports
The New York Post. Eminem had ripped her in Rolling Stone magazine in
June. After noting the two had dated briefly, the rapper said, "On the
whole personal level, I'm not really feeling it. I just don't like her
as a person. I learned a lesson from it: Don't believe the hype... .
She doesn't really have it all together." In the song "Clown," Mariah
sings, "You should have never intimated we were lovers. I gotta break
it to you delicately - who's gonna love you when it's over? Who's gonna
care?" Did Carey write the lyrics? "I wrote all the songs except for
one or two," she slyly told The Post. Asked if she was dating, Mariah
replied, "I'm not with anyone right now. Got someone?"

Eminem's Miraculous Return
Xzibit, Eminem's rap ally and movie co-star, is tipping Marshall Mathers
long anticipated '8 Mile ' film for Oscars. The rapper, who co-stars
in the feature, anticipates a smash. "I've seen it and it's over
the top. It's going to win awards," he said. "The film is
miraculous. I play a bully. I poke a whole lunch-line. I'm a piece of
shit too." Xzibit says he was cast because he's part of the family
of artists that includes Eminem and Dr Dre. "I'm in '8 Mile' because
its family oriented. I was more than happy to do it because we're all
family. But if ['8 Mile' director] Curtis Hanson called me with a role
and said it was to play a swashbuckler, I'd have to be kind of hesitant.
That's not my forte right now. Music is the thing." Xzibit added
that while reluctant to continue as a celluloid star, he wouldn't rule
himself out of future roles completely. "If there was something
special to come up - if Spielberg or someone called me to come and do
the next 'Star Wars', nigga I'm there."

Samuel L Jackson raps
Eminem
Screen badass Samuel L Jackson has slammed Eminem and other rap stars
who walk into starring movie roles. "If somebody came to me and
asked me to be in 8 Mile I wouldn't have been in it," the Pulp
Fiction star said. "Eminem's the star of the movie and they want
me to be co-star? That's not going to happen. I don't have to legitimise
somebody else's career that I don't think deserves legitimising at that
point." He objects to rap stars elbowing out legitimate actors.
"You spend all your time honing your craft and suddenly someone's
taken from another medium because they have a built-in audience and
will give you a song for the soundtrack," he says. "I'd rather
help a young actor be discovered than help make more dollars for some
rapper who's already got a career and enough money." Rap stars
who want to learn to act are fine, says Jackson, who worked with Busta
Rhymes on Shaft. "Busta was cool. He came to work on time, was
humble and willing to listen and understand. I'm doing a movie with
LL Cool J right now and then with Queen Latifah, but those aren't movies
they are starring in." He has no time for those who want instant
stardom: "I won't be one of the people who prop them up."

Family, friends unite to give
Eminem a surprise party
Though Eminem's 30th birthday got off to a rocky start Thursday when
he confronted the author of a new tell-all on radio station WKQI-FM
(95.5), it took a turn for the better that night. Told he needed to
check a potential shooting location for his video "Superman,"
Em went to the oddball Farmington Hills arcade Marvin's
Marvelous Mechanical Museum. Friends and family were waiting to
get a party started. "He was very surprised," says Marvin's
owner Marvin Yagoda. "His aunt and his wife (ex-wife Kim Mathers)
and his daughter were there, and everybody had a ball."

Jennifer was on the show promoting her book 'Cleaning Out MY Closet'

8 Mile News
-
Richard Roeper of 'Ebert & Roeper' caught the '8 Mile' premiere
at the Toronto Film Festival last month and told Blender magazine, "There
was more buzz about '8 Mile' than any other film. There are certain
moments when peple were applauding in the middle of the movie. It almost
had a concertlike atmosphere to it. It's that kind of movie, a little
'Rocky'-ish, 'Saturday Night Fever'-ish." As for Slim's Oscar hopes,
Roeper says, "Eminem does come with a lot of baggage. But there
was a time when people thought Frank Sinatra was just a pop singer.
He won an Academy Award."
- Philip Sherburne of San
Francisco Weekly chatted with England rapper Mike Skinner of the Streets.
Being a white hip hop artist, he invariably gets asked about Eminem
comparisons. Skinner says, "I don't think I am [like him], really.
I just think it's that I'm quite lairy [rowdy] and I speak my mind.
Eminem's the other person who does that people would know about."
Sherbune says "the comparison makes no sense," explaining
that, "Instead of hotheaded hooliganism, Skinner offers cool pacifism."

Cousin's Tell-All Book Doesn't
Faze Eminem
It was a birthday gift Eminem, aka Marshall Mathers, probably wouldn't
have wished for. Calculating and timed to the letter, a woman who wrote
a scandalous, tell-all book about the Detroit rapper was hawking the
book on a local radio station. Eminem is not one to grant interviews,
nor say anything outside of giving his opinion through his music, but
he did give a call-in to a radio show to dispute the author's claims
and clear up some misconceptions. "I thank God every day that he
gave me the talent and strength to get through everything I've been
through," Eminem said. Eminem has had his share of people trying
to jump on his celebrity band wagon. In August 2000, his mother, Debbie
Mathers, sued him for defamation because of how she was depicted in
some of Eminem's songs. But J.R. "Jen" Watkins -- who is the
cousin of Kim Mathers, Eminem's ex-wife -- said that her book, "Cleaning
Out My Closet," was more of a way to "get things off my chest."
"It started as a project and a kind of message to Marshall, too,"
Watkins said during the radio interview. "I have no way to get
in touch with him. He's just broke off all ties without any explanation,"
Watkins said. The woman has said that she practically "brought
up" Eminem's daughter, Hailie. Kim Mathers, who is also featured
prominently in the book, called in to the station, too. "That's
my cousin, Jennifer, sitting in the studio with you right now. What
I have to say is first and foremost that she wants to talk about how
I'm a family-wrecker. Let's talk about how she wrecks her family, how
she dates her aunt's ex-husband... The real reason she stopped speaking
to me is because I wouldn't have sex with her and her husband,"
Mathers said. Eminem told the radio audience that the book doesn't faze
him. "The people who end up writing books about me, end up back
in their little trailer-trash homes anyway. They think they're going
to get a little money and it ends up flopping and back firing in their
face," he said. Kim Mathers believes that the reason her cousin
wrote the book is because she was trying to get revenge on Eminem. "The
fact of the matter of her writing the book is that she's mad because
she tried to get with Marshall. He didn't want to see her in that way
and because he cut off ties with her she's pissed," Mathers said.
Eminem backed up his ex-wife's statement "100 percent." When
asked to confirm the rumors that he and Kim were back together, Eminem
said that the two have a friendly relationship because of their daughter.
Meanwhile, a source says that J.R. Watkins and her husband, Mike, had
every intention of releasing the book to coincide with the media splash
that would happen when Eminem's movie "8 Mile" is released
on Nov. 8. Detroit radio station 95.5 FM will replay the radio interview
on Friday at 7 a.m.

Eminem Turns 30, Prepares Movie
And Album
Eminem, who is gearing up for the theatrical release of his debut movie,
"8 Mile," turns 30 tomorrow (October 17). Em, who stars opposite
Kim Basinger in the new movie, recently popped up at Michigan State
University following a screening of the movie. As the credits were rolling
playing the last song, "Lose Yourself," the screen rose and
Eminem and D-12 performed the song live for the amazed 1700 theater
patrons. Eminem went on to perform a 45 minute set for the enthusiastic
crowd."8 Mile," which has been very well received by critics,
hits theaters in North America November 8. The movie has even impressed
Samuel L. Jackson, who vowed he would never act with a rapper. Jackson
said he was impressed by what he saw, but added "When he decides
to do his next movie, if they want him to be a cop, a college student
or college professor, a lawyer or whatever, then we'll decide whether
he's an actor or not." The soundtrack to the movie, which hits
record stores October 29, features a who's who of rap artists, including
50 Cent, Nas, Jay-Z, Rakim, Xzibit, Young Zee and Obie Trice. "The
'8 Mile' soundtrack was different because it forced me to step into
Rabbit, the character I play in the film, and write from his point of
view," Eminem said in a statement released to AllHipHop.com. "It
was a challenge. Also, the project afforded me the opportunity to not
only make an album with a wish list of some of my favorite artists,
but to showcase what we have coming on Shady Records."

Eminem Gives Surprise Performance
It was only supposed to be a screening of 8 Mile, but Eminem gave attendees
quite the pleasant surprise Friday (Oct. 11) night. Some 1,700 people
were gathered at the Michigan State Auditorium in East Lansing, Mich.,
for the screening of the rapper's new movie. But, instead of his new
hit, "Lose Yourself," playing during the closing credits,
the movie screen rolled up to reveal Em with his posse D12 performing
the track live instead. Eminem and crew went on to perform a 45-minute
set, according to the Michigan State campus newspaper, the State News.
The whole thing was shot for the premiere of MTV Jammed, which will
air at 10 p.m. Nov. 6. Rumors had flown around campus for weeks that
Eminem might make an appearance, but those rumors had been quashed by
university officials who wanted to keep the whole thing low-key. Still,
the rumors were enough to create a long lineup Friday night outside
the venerable auditorium.

Detroit - "I saw the trailers for 8 Mile the other day. It looked
like a great film. It's got a great pedigree."You've got an Academy
Award winning director (Curtis Hanson), and an Academy Award winning
actress (Kim Basinger) in it. "And Eminem looks like he's doing
a great job playing Eminem."But when he decides to do his next

seeing him on TV for six seconds I knew he could act. And then when
he came here and I was with him, I couldn't keep my eyes off him....
And this movie is going to change the way a lot of people look at him."

Eminem Takes 3rd
U2 front man Bono is rated as the most powerful man in music and not
just because of his soaring vocals, according to a poll of top music
industry executives. Irishman Bono tops the list, to be published in
British music magazine "Q" next week, because of his high
profile pronouncements on political issues ranging from Third World
debt to the enlargement of the European UnionThe 42-year-old singer,
real name Paul Hewson, has used his fame to gain access to the world's
political leaders and has even met the Pope. Earlier this year Time
Magazine's cover had the banner headline: "Can Bono Save the World?"
The singer, usually seen with his trademark wraparound blue sunglasses,
not only makes a success of lobbying politicians but his band continues
to enjoy worldwide hits 25-years after it was formed. Runner-up in the
poll was Doug Morris, 64, head of the world's largest record company
Universal. Third was controversial rapper Eminem -- seen as influential
for his challenging song lyrics -- while at number four is L Lowry Mays
the founder of U.S entertainment giant Clear Channel. Also in the top
ten are the late Kurt Cobain who was seen to have taken underground
rock into the mainstream, Sir Paul McCartney and Yoko Ono and Simon
Fuller -- creator of the Spice Girls. At number 11 is Dr. Dre, well
ahead of Robbie Williams at 24 who recently signed an 80 million pound
($125 million) music deal, a record in the UK. Simon Cowell, famous
for his role as a judge on singing competition "American Idol"
and Britain's "Pop Idol" was placed at 28, ahead of Kylie
Minogue (29), Moby (30) and Madonna (31). Elvis Presley, whose songs
are still topping the charts on both sides of the Atlantic 25 years
after he died, was ranked at 44, one behind the Gallagher brothers of
Oasis fame.

Xzibit, Macy Gray, D-12, 50 Cent, and others. The 16-track soundtrack
is due Oct. 29 on Shady Records/Interscope Records, while the movie
- starring himself, Brittany Murphy, Kim Basinger, Mekhi Phifer,
and Taryn Manning (whose band, Boomkat, is on the soundtrack) -- hits
theatres nationwide on Nov. 8. The album features three new songs from
Eminem - the aforementioned first single "Lose Yourself,"
"8 Mile," and "Run Rabbit Run" - and three
tracks with 50 Cent, who recently co-signed to Em's Shady Records and
Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment. Another Shady signing, Obie Trice,
also makes the cut with two tracks. (Obie appears on D-12's Devils Night
and The Eminem Show on "Drips.") "The 8 Mile soundtrack

Eminem And Rakim Talk Collaboration
In an interview with Mass Appeal magazine, pop-hop bad boy Eminem
and Rakim, an '80s rap icon, compared lyrical styles and strongly suggested
that they would record together in the near future. Although both lyricists
are affiliates of Dr. Dre, neither has publicly discussed the prospect
of collaboration until this cover story. Because of their conflicting
schedules, Eminem admitted, the pair hasn't yet been able to unite in
the studio, but they said there is a realistic possibility they will
collaborate on Rakim's highly-anticipated album, Oh My God. "We
talked about doing something together when we met for [a] photo shoot.
It seemed that for a minute we just kept missing each other," Eminem
said, "I told Ra, yo, I'm there. I'm available." Rakim said,
in agreement, "If me and Em hit the studio, we gonna come out of
there with something great. So look out." A huge fan of Rakim,
Eminem suggested that working with the man deemed by many as the "god
of rap" would be an intimidating feat, even though he himself is
currently considered as one of the finest rappers in the game, if not
the finest.
"I just told Ra that
before I do a song with him, I need to stack my ideas for like a month,
he said. "But whenever you need me Ra, I'm on a plane." The
pair also compared the changes in rhyme styles from the late '80s, when
Rakim was the standard of excellence, to the present, where Em is the
current dominant lyrical presence. Rakim said that from his point of
view, hip-hop music has progressed and taken steps backwards too. "Rhyme
styles are advanced, but in someways its stagnating 'cause you got a
lot of rappers talking about the same sh*t." Unlike some of his
peers, Eminem said he never uses a rhyme he isn't impressed by. "I
know that I work hard at putting rhymes together. You can tell when
somebody's in the studio writing two-minute rhymes and doesn't really
give a f**k," Eminem said.
